Twice As Nice Mother & Child is a 501(c)(3) organization that strives to ensure that mothers and children have their most basic needs met. We provide help and hope to families in crisis by offering them assistance free of charge.
Since its inception in 2010, our organization has experienced tremendous growth that has allowed us to provide much needed assistance to families in Illinois. Through our relationships with social service agencies and nonprofit organizations, we have been able to extend our reach to provide even more families with the help that they need to care for their children safely—and with dignity. Regardless of the type of assistance that is needed, Twice As Nice Mother & Child can help restore stability and hope during challenging times.
We provide gently used items (clothing, shoes and infant care essentials) as well as diapers, wipes and infant formula. All of the assistance that we offer to families is free of charge.
We can provide the following items (subject to availability):
• Women (maternity wear) – ALL SIZES
• Children (clothing, shoes, outerwear) – NEWBORN TO SIZE 12
• Infant Care Essentials (cribs, strollers, car seats/boosters, bouncers, exersaucers, feeding seats/high chairs, pack ‘n plays, bedding/blankets)
• Disposable Diapers & Wipes – WE ARE A CERTIFIED DIAPER BANK AND MEMBER OF THE NATIONAL DIAPER BANK NETWORK (NDBN).
• Infant Formula (Enfamil Only)
• Children’s Books
All of the gently used items that we receive are inspected thoroughly and must meet our quality standards. We only accept and distribute items that are in GOOD CONDITION (free of stains, holes and damage). Items that we cannot use are recycled.
Twice As Nice Mother & Child works directly with local social service agencies and nonprofit organizations to provide assistance to families in crisis. We want to create partnerships with those types of organizations and become a valuable resource for them. Agencies and organizations not only have an established client base, but they have also identified a genuine need for the items that we can provide to them. Families in need can be referred to us by them. We provide items to our partners and they handle the distribution to the families.
Direct service is also available to families that qualify and complete our intake process.
Our inventory changes regularly due to the volume of requests that we receive and that may impact our ability to provide assistance. The determination of whether the organization will provide any type of assistance will be made based on the nature of the request as well as the availability of items in accordance with organization policies.
Guidelines for Assistance
Agencies are required to establish a partnership with our organization in order to receive any type of assistance. We require agencies to complete our Partner Agency Application and Agreement which must be submitted via email (firstname.lastname@example.org) or fax (224-656-6570). If the request for partnership is approved, the agency will be notified and added to our partner distribution list. We communicate with our partners once per month to inquire about any needs that they have for the families that they serve. Requests can be submitted at that time. If something is needed before or after the monthly communication, the agency is welcome to submit a request.
All requests for assistance from an agency must be submitted via our Request for Assistance form. There are no income or employment requirements for families that are in need of assistance. We do not require any personal or confidential information about the families; however, any family that is requesting assistance must be assigned a case number by the agency. The case number must be unique to that family—and it must be used for each and every request that is made by that family. The case number will be used to track all of the items that are provided to that family by our organization. PLEASE NOTE THAT THE CASE NUMBER/FAMILY INFORMATION IS NOT REQUIRED FOR CENTERS, PANTRIES OR STORES (SEE THE BOTTOM OF THE REQUEST FORM FOR YOUR REQUIREMENTS). All of the children in the family should be listed on the form along with their ages and genders. Sizes must also be included for the children if diapers, clothing or shoes are needed.
Direct service clients must complete our intake process and provide the required documentation. Once we receive the paperwork and documentation has been verified, we will contact you to discuss how we can help you and schedule an appointment to come in to our office. Walk-ins are not accepted. Infant care essentials, including diapers and wipes, will not be provided until a child is actually born. Families are limited to 4 large items per year (crib, stroller, pack ‘n play, car seat, feeding seat, etc.). Disposable diapers can be requested once a month and will be limited to 50-100 diapers per child per request. Wipes will be provided upon request. Infant formula can be requested every month and will be limited to 1 can per family. Enfamil is the only brand of infant formula that we carry. Maternity clothing is limited to 10-12 pieces every other month. Children’s clothing is limited to 12-15 pieces every other month. Please be advised that the number of pieces of clothing provided may be reduced based on inventory levels at the time of the request.
Agencies must pick up their requested items from our Gurnee office and handle the distribution to the families. Office hours are from 8:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. ALL PICK-UPS MUST BE SCHEDULED. Items must be picked up within one week of your scheduled pick-up day or they will be distributed to other agencies. The typical turnaround time for orders is 3-5 business days from the date that the request form is received; however, there may be a delay if we do not have what is being requested in stock and need to obtain it elsewhere. If one of your requests will be delayed or cannot be filled, you will be notified accordingly.
